Writer’s Guild Rights, Philadelphia Music Week, Entertainment Software Association, Premiere Brazil! 2007, Expo Comm Wireless Japan, Gibson Foundation

The Media Conference, a one day conference, happening on July 3 in London, brings together policy-makers, companies, foundations and charities working for global change to learn how to successfully exploit the power of film as a global advocacy tool. Craig Mazin, the writer and producer of the hit comedies Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4 leads a discussion on "The Ins and Outs of Writer’s Guild Rights and The Coming Contract Renegotiation" for the Alameda Writers Group's July 7 meeting in Glendale. The World Premiere of Static Room Media's production of Shelli Ryan's film Jake’s Closet - a suspenseful journey into the mind of a little boy who believes there is something lurking in his bedroom closet - will be screened July 7 in the competition segment of the DancesWithFilms Film Festival, opening July 6-12 in West Hollywood. The Independents Day Music Conference is a break-out session within the Philadelphia Music Week celebration, running July 9-15, to celebrate Philadelphia music, and hosted by the Recording Academy®, in which there is a slate of performances, activities, and events highlighting Philadelphia artists and music venues.

In its return to the New York area, The Latin Alternative Music Conference runs July 10-14 featuring free concerts and film nights at Central Park Summerstage and the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival at Prospect Park, industry panels at the Roosevelt Hotel, numerous artist showcases across the city and a closing night party at the Cooper-Hewitt museum. From July 11-13 Barker Hangar in Santa Monica will be converted into a software showcase where invited attendees will be able to casually test drive featured video games in what shapes up to be a preeminent press and networking event hosted by the Entertainment Software Association. Proibido Proibir (Forbidden to Forbid), by writer/director Jorge Durán, and with Caio Blat, Maria Flor, Alexandre Rodrigues, and Andressa Furletti (http://www.myspace.com/andressafurletti) will have its NYC screening, July 14 & 20, during Premiere Brazil! 2007, a collaboration between MoMA and the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. During the two days ConnectiCon runs, beginning July 13, convention members will find entertainment including (but not limited to) gaming tournaments, video screenings of anime and major motion pictures, informative panels, workshops and demonstrations, and a 12,000 square foot gift shop. On July 16 & 17 in San Francisco, the 2007 Ypulse Mashup (www.mashup.ypulse.com/mashup_2007), the brainchild of Anastasia Goodstein (www.myspace.com/ypulse) is the place where industry experts discuss leveraging social media, virtual reality environments and wireless technology; social networking and non-traditional marketing; youth activism, branding, experiential marketing and more.

Project Accessible Hollywood, also known as PAH-FEST, is the brain child of Christopher Coppola (the nephew of Francis Ford) and is a new kind of digital media festival that celebrates the stories and voices of everyday people by recording them using today’s latest technology and pro-sumer equipment. Festivities are July 16-22 in Livonia and will feature an evening of film and discussion with Elmore Leonard and his latest work. During Expo Comm Wireless Japan, taking place July 18-20 in Tokyo, the focus will be on Wireless and Mobile networks, Personal Area Networks, Internet ITS, Home networks, and other wireless technologies for Japan's advanced mobile society. At the Develop in Brighton Gaming Conference and Expo, from July 24-26, there will be various networking events and evening receptions, in addition to the Develop Industry Excellence Awards 2007 on Wednesday night. The NATPE TV Producers Boot Camp and LA TV Festival, run in tandem, though at different locations in the Los Angeles area, July 25-27, both offering an agenda suited to the established independent producer, or an emerging creator, building their industry credentials. Comic-Con International is a gathering of comic book, science fiction, film and television fans attending this event, July 26-29 in San Diego, which also offers seminars on breaking into filmmaking and near 24-hour film retrospectives. The Grammy Foundation along with the Gibson Foundation honors Quincy Jones, the ambassador for The Recording Academy's 50th Celebration, at its annual Starry Night gala — a benefit dinner and concert under the stars on July 28 in Los Angeles.
