Filmmaking and video training opportunity through Video Volunteers. Spend 2 months teaching video production to activists working in Bhopal, India, site of the world's worst gas disaster. Project Summary: Health activists in Bhopal will be taught to produce videos as a tool in community organizing. Bhopal site of the 1984 Union Carbide Disaster that has caused the deaths of more than 20,000 people has some of the world's highest incidences of TB and other diseases related to the ground water contamination. Video is the ideal method to convey health information and messages to the victims. About Video Volunteers: Video Volunteers promotes the use of video as a tool in poverty alleviation and social change. We match filmmakers with NGOs for short collaborations, during which advocacy videos are produced, and training is imparted to the NGOs. http://www.videovolunteers.org. Project Support: The Sambhavna Trust will provide room, board and local transportation to the volunteer during the course of the training. They will provide all the video equipment necessary for the training component. Essence Magazine's annual music festival is in New Orleans through July 3 and has slated performers, speakers and seminars as part of its 35th anniversary celebration. The Thirty-ninth annual Montreux Jazz Festival takes place at the foot of the Swiss Alps this year in Montreux from July 1-16 and spans a wide musical spectrum. Screenwriter Steve Kaire has sold or optioned eight projects to the major studios including Warners, Columbia, United Artists and Interscope. On July 2 he discusses "High Concept: Creating and Selling to Hollywood" at Alameda Writers Group Meeting in Glendale. Writing the One-Hour Dramatic Teleplay is the focus of a one-day workshop meeting on UCLA campus July 6 in Los Angeles.
