On February 10 and 11, 2006 (Friday and Saturday evenings), Cary Players will present "Love Bits and Bites", a lover's feast of romantic scenes and songs. Directed by Lyman Collins, it will be performed at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center in downtown Cary.
We are currently putting this special show together, and the content of the production will be shaped by the talent that goes into it. We are looking for musicians, singers, and actors to bring to Cary a night of "love found and love lost."

THEATRE NEW WEST ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR "THE PRISON PLAYS"
Following on the heels of it's critically hailed production of BENT, Theatre New West announces auditions for "The Prison Plays"-WOMEN BEHIND BARS and FORTUNE and MEN'S EYES.
WOMEN BEHIND BARS by Tom Eyen, who received a Tony Award for his book of the musical DREAMGIRLS, first appeared Off Broadway in 1976, with Divine playing the role of the prison matron. The playwright based the dialogue and plotlines on the exploitation films of the 1950's. It takes your worst women's prison nightmare to the nth degree and makes it so horrible that it's hilarious. The comedy is set in The Woman's House of Detention in Greenwich Village, and the 10 woman cast includes a range of social and psychological "types."
FORTUNE and MEN'S EYES by John Herbert is a powerful play in which a young man in prison learns what self-preservation is all about, as he must become the sexual slave of a stronger inmate in order to survive. It enjoyed a sensational run on Broadway with Sal Minneo in the lead role. It was also made into a film in 1971 with Michael Greer in the role of Queenie (the role played by Joe Watts when the play was produced in Houston in the 1970's). It has strong language and brief nudity, and uses prison homosexual activity as a framework around which to base a plea for prison reform. It also has a great deal of humor.
WOMEN BEHIND BARS has a cast of 10 females. Some of the female roles will be played by men in drag. FORTUNE and MEN'S EYES has a cast of 5 males (4, 18-30 "youths"), and a guard 45-50. Auditions are by appointment, but walk-ins will be accepted. For "Women" prepare a two minute comedy monologue and/or read from the script. For "Fortune" prepare a two minute serious monologue and/or read from the script. Work Monday through Friday from 10 am 6 pm with own desk, computer, phone, and email account just like our full-time staff members who are given intensive training as well as specific duties and projects in one department under the guidance of experienced supervisors and attend full-staff meetings as well as departmental meetings. Attend weekly educational seminars led by MTC Department Heads and guests from the MTC extended creative family are assigned a mentor? a senior staff member from outside of their department? to give them a fuller picture of how MTC works and are provided a weekly stipend of $210 (though we are unable to provide housing assistance). CASTING SOMETHING CALLED HOLLY FEATURE FILM
Non-Union. Director: TBD. Something Called Holly is about a 20 year old girl who moves from one world of values to another. But it also portrays themes of responsibility, admission versus accountability, conflicts with opposing values, idealism versus grim reality, and urban versus suburban lifestyles. Holly is introduced as a strong willed girl, who makes her own decisions in whatever circumstances life may offer, but over time, is confronted with the reality of her lifestyle, becomes 'unable to see the forest through the trees', and struggles to find a way out. The 'way out' seems to come by way of fate, the gods, or perhaps just raw coincidence (with a bit of luck). Her uncle Jake and the abandoned remains of her family - a family destroyed by sibling disputes and rivalry - have discovered her lifestyle and whereabouts and decide to bring her back home. The story unfolds as Holly tries to gain new footing in her new world, but needs to overcome her old world values. Sam: Man, mid 40s. At the end of the play he is 65. Peter's father, a public high school teacher. A larger-than-life, life-of-the-party character. Loud, always smokes a cigar. Has difficulty expressing the love he feels for his children. Young Peter: 29, at various ages from 5 to 29. A young boy who grows into a young man through the course of the play. His memory of growing up with Sam and Pearl is often different than the older version of himself, and he is not afraid to speak his mind. Jon: 35, at various ages from 15 to 35. Peter's older brother by almost six years. Peter idolizes him. Unlike Peter, he is the rebel in the family, constantly challenging his father and suffering the consequences. Aunt Harriet: Woman, mid 40s. At the beginning of the play she is 60. Pearl's younger sister by two years. She lives with her family and her mother in the apartment right below Sam and Pearl's. Holly is introduced as a strong willed girl, who makes her own decisions in whatever circumstances life may offer, but over time, is confronted with the reality of her lifestyle, becomes 'unable to see the forest through the trees', and struggles to find a way out. The 'way out' seems to come by way of fate, the gods, or perhaps just raw coincidence (with a bit of luck). Her uncle Jake and the abandoned remains of her family - a family destroyed by sibling disputes and rivalry - have discovered her lifestyle and whereabouts and decide to bring her back home. The story unfolds as Holly tries to gain new footing in her new world, but needs to overcome her old world values. PATTY: White female, approx 57. Main character's mother. Often enjoys two cigarettes at once, can't remember her wedding night, loves costume parties... 2-3 days of shooting tops.
ANDY: White male, approx 24. Main character's manipulative roommate. Promises to help him search for his childhood imaginary friend. Snarky, calculating, lonely, confused...
10 days of shooting tops. Our budget may be low, but our Director and Producer are both experienced and ambitious, and are determined to make this film as high-quality as possible. We will be shooting for approximately 20 days in December/January -- our shooting schedule is currently very flexible. We're shooting in Dutchess County, about an hour and a half from New Yorkk City. I am directing a staged reading of a feature-length screenplay. The script is darn funny and we want to bring it to a larger audience in the next couple of months. Her wits are dimmed by depression and its attendant pharmaceutical substances. This actress will also read several smaller roles. Younger Roles: JULIE female, 20's, is cynical and darkly funny. Looking for an actress who is pretty but not necessarily gorgeous, believable as both cynical and sincere. FAIRBANKS male, 20's, is a rich prick whose mind cannot reach beyond the narrow world of his own arrogance. Need an actor with the ability to deliver the dialogue in a funny, wannabe grand, voice but with no irony; Fairbanks's denial of his own mediocrity is absolute. We also need several 20-somethings, male and female, to round out the cast and play several roles apiece. These range from local skater-punks to patrons at a minigolf course. The film is about a young man who returns to his hometown, a small New England beach community, ready to throw in the towel and give up on his dreams. We're planning on shooting in a 4:3 aspect ratio and then later masking the footage to letterbox format, 1.85:1. We're providing the camera, tapes and tripod, along with the lighting and mics -- but if you have any of your own equipment that you want to use, that's great too. We will be shooting for approximately 20 days in December/January -- our shooting schedule is currently very flexible. We're shooting in Dutchess County, about an hour and a half from New Yorkk City. EDITOR FOR DOCUMENTARY FILM
Hi. I'm looking for an assistant editor for a documentary about a well known chef and her organic restaurant. The footage was shot on 24p minidv at the restaurant and in rural (farm) locations. It has all been logged and captured in Final Cut Pro. We are looking for someone to work with the editor organizing and creating sequences for the project. There is some pay.
