Jazz Convention, SAG Nominations, NAMM Int'l Music Market, Blues Cruise, MIDEM, 77th Academy Awards Nominations Highlight January Media Events

International Association for Jazz Education Conference, one of the larger gatherings of the global jazz community, opens at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach running from January 5-28. Nominations for the Directors Guild Award, considered an accurate industry barometer for who will win the Best Director Academy Award, will be made at the DGA Awards Office in Los Angeles on January 6. Soupy Sales receives the 2,274th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at a January 7 ceremony. The People's Choice Awards on January 9 at Pasadena Civic Auditorium will make some tickets available to the general public through Audiences Unlimited. SAG Award Nominations will be announced, January 11 at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. A "Trailblazers of Gospel Music Luncheon" honors contemporary gospel singers Rance Allen and Pastor John P. Kee during a January 14 presentation in Houston. Producer Irwin Winkler, the only producer to have three of his films listed on the American Film Institute’s list of top 100 films of all time, will be the main attraction of a January 19 Women In Film Breakfast Meeting, at Wyndham Bel Age Hotel in West Hollywood. NAMM International Music Market, considered one of the larger trade-only music products shows with more than 74,000 attendees and 1,343 exhibiting companies, runs this year from January 20-23 in Anaheim. Slamdance Film Festival has eclectic offerings in its festival program including documentary features, documentary shorts, midnight screening features, animated shorts and more, during its weeklong run January 21-28 in Park City. A Blues Cruise sets sail aboard the five star Holland America bound for the Eastern Caribbean and features 60 performances when it sets sail January 22 from Fort Lauderdale. An Actor's Intensive Weekend Workshop, happening over two days, January 22 and 23 in Downtown LA, is a weekend workshop with Kirk Baltz for actors of all experience and capability. This year's MIDEM Music & Technology Forum, another large music networking conference with over 9,000 music professionals projected to attend, is slated to run January 23-28 in Cannes. The 77th Academy Awards Nominations are set to be announced on January 25 from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Rotterdam International Film Festival places heavy emphasis on Russian film fare when it opens January 26 - February 6 in Rotterdam. Game developers and entertainment companies can learn about potential new revenue sources for their organizations when they attend the Interactive Entertainment Institute G.A.M.E.S. Synergy Summit, running for two days starting January 26 in Orlando. Southern California broadcast news professionals will have their Golden Mike Awards Dinner in Universal City on January 29.
