The Method Fest is known as The Actor's Film Festival, a festival of discovery, seeking breakout acting performances of emerging stars and established actors in story-driven independent films, closes out on April 8 with a closing party the night before in Calabasas. Minnesota Film Arts is hosting the 23rd Annual Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival in Minneapolis through April 16 with opening and closing night parties throughout. The Istanbul International Film Festival, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts has a theme this year of 'Arts and the Movies', as it plays through April 17. Nashville Songwriters Association International presents the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival which features the NSAI Songwriter's Symposium and the Tin Pan South Songwriters Golf Classic Invitational, from April 4 to 9. Roma Independent Film Festival, opening April 4 to 9 in Rome, includes retrospectives, roundtable discussions with top international filmmakers, workshops, live music, and VIP cocktail parties. Eilat International Film Festival running April 6 to 9, bill itself as a competitive festival and includes competitions for 'Best Foreign Film' and 'Best Israeli Film'. A Miami conference dedicated to the critical role of New Generation Latino in the worlds of media, marketing and entertainment - New Generation Latino Consortium in Miami - is set for April 6. New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival features a stage solely dedicated to some of New Orleans most vibrant music and most venerable cultural traditions during its run of April 22 to May 1. Leopold of the Shoe Store is an Indie feature SAG (SAG low budget contract) farce to be shot on DV-Cam revolving around the adventures of a shoe store clerk named Leopold who becomes infatuated with a pretty actress named Kathy who one day purchases shoes at his store. In his quest for the girl he becomes enmeshed in a web of characters involved with, amongst other things, cocaine trafficking.
The plot is complex with most of the characters turning out to be in some way related to everyone else. Leopold who is the eternal jerk, works for Graham, the last word in pomposity. Kathy is friends with Rosellen, a sexy ditz. Rosellen's boyfriend Eric, is a big scary, macho, tattooed thug who "hates fags" but is tormented by homoerotic dreams. Pokrassa is his stupid henchman. Leopold's best friend is the eternally optimistic and happy blind antiques dealer, Pendleberry. Kathy's boyfriend Tommy is a handsome, aspiring actor whom Leopold is terribly jealous of. Buddy Nestor is a somewhat shady man about town who has a fling with Kathy and employs her in his antiques shop and whose caretaker, Glen, is a weirdo. Ultimately, Buddy runs afoul of Eric. There are flashbacks to Leopold's father, a hopeless gambler, and Leopold's dying mother, a former Ziegfeld Girl, (role is cast). There is Elmer, a nerdy little man who is bullied by Leopold into buying shoes that are too tight and whose large girlfriend Diane, is determined to get revenge. Shooting in late May through the first and second weeks of June.
CAST BREAKDOWN:
LEOPOLD OSTEOKUP: 35-40 Caucasian male of average height/weight. Very comedic character. He should be somewhat funny looking but not grotesque.
LEOPOLD AS A CHILD: 10 year old version of Leopold.
KATHLEEN MARY SMITH: 20-25, race not important. Must be strikingly pretty in a cute way. Very sunny, vivacious personality.
ERIC VON MARC MALKOVSKY: Large, rugged, powerfully built Caucasian "biker" type 35-40. He must be menacing looking with a shaved head and beard. Actor must be good at accents and be able to convincingly portray a macho repressed gay man.
MITCH POKRASSA: 30-35, tall, powerfully built man who speaks with low class NY accent. Must have good comic acting ability.
ART DEALER: Middle aged or older man with slight Yiddish accent. A Jackie Mason type.
ROSELLEN: 25-30, tall very voluptuous, gorgeous caucasian female with great sex appeal who can portray a ditzy character.
CHARLIE PENDELBURY: 35-40 caucasian male. He should be slender with a pleasant, sunny personality. He plays a blind man.

UNCLE LOUIS: 40 plus male who speaks with NY accent and can be a comedic villain.

Leopold of the Shoe Store is an Indie feature SAG (SAG low budget contract) farce to be shot on DV-Cam revolving around the adventures of a shoe store clerk named Leopold who becomes infatuated with a pretty actress named Kathy who one day purchases shoes at his store. In his quest for the girl he becomes enmeshed in a web of characters involved with, amongst other things, cocaine trafficking.
The plot is complex with most of the characters turning out to be in some way related to everyone else. Leopold who is the eternal jerk, works for Graham, the last word in pomposity. Kathy is friends with Rosellen, a sexy ditz. Rosellen's boyfriend Eric, is a big scary, macho, tattooed thug who "hates fags" but is tormented by homoerotic dreams. Pokrassa is his stupid henchman. Leopold's best friend is the eternally optimistic and happy blind antiques dealer, Pendleberry. Kathy's boyfriend Tommy is a handsome, aspiring actor whom Leopold is terribly jealous of. Buddy Nestor is a somewhat shady man about town who has a fling with Kathy and employs her in his antiques shop and whose caretaker, Glen, is a weirdo. Ultimately, Buddy runs afoul of Eric. There are flashbacks to Leopold's father, a hopeless gambler, and Leopold's dying mother, a former Ziegfeld Girl, (role is cast). There is Elmer, a nerdy little man who is bullied by Leopold into buying shoes that are too tight and whose large girlfriend Diane, is determined to get revenge. Shooting in late May through the first and second weeks of June.

FILM IN THE CITY SEEKS SHORT FILM SUBMISSIONS
New York City based Film in the City is currently seeking Short Film Submissions for its monthly new popular signature program "FITC Industry Nights "SESSIONS". FITC Industry Nights is a monthly program which showcases the latest Short films by directors from around the country.
FITC Industry Nights is a high profile film event which enables each filmmaker to showcase their latest film to the entertainment industry. The FITC Industry Nights programs are always sold out events. If you are looking for a high profile venue to showcase your film,you don't want to miss out on this opportunity.
Please follow the directions below to submit your film:
1) FITC is Currently Only Accepting Shorts Submissions for the FITC Industry Nights Salon.
2) Film Shorts Must be between 5-20 minutes long. (no longer)
3) Feature and Documentary submissions can be between 1-1/2 hours long.
4) Email your brief one paragraph bio to Brunchinthecity@yahoo.com, "SHORTS" in the subject line (NO ATTACHMENTS)
5) Email the length of your film,include contact info.
6) We only use DVD, Film Print and VHS formats
7) Please inform us of any film festivals or competitions that the film has already been shown in.
8) Include when the film was made. We will ONLY get back to filmmakers whose work we have an interest in showcasing. Thanks for taking the time to submit your work to the Film in the City Industry Nights Salon.

Cinequest Film Festival opens with a Gala party featuring appetizers, desserts, cocktails and entertainment, and continues its run through March 13 in San Jose. During Canadian Music Week, up to 150 artists will be selected to play in CMW's Official Breakthrough Showcase Series in selected downtown Toronto venues through March 5. The 4th Annual Billboard Music & Money Symposium conducts an in-depth examination of the financial realities in the music industry for a one-time only March 3 session in New York City. The Academy of Country Music Awards Nominees host a press conference for its upcoming awards show on March 3 in Nashville. Alameda Writers Group which presents lectures by novelists, screenwriters, agents, producers and other industry professionals, besides offering support and feedback for works-in-progress, has its free monthly meeting March 5 at Glendale Central Library in Glendale. A weekend workshop for actors of all experience and capability with instructor Kirk Baltz takes place March 5 and 6 in Los Angeles. An Audition Science Seminar at Burt Reynold's Museum located in Jupiter, will be held March 6-8. A BMI Round Table examines how the Nashville music industry operates, as well as other topics, when it meets March 7 in Nashville. National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters 21st Annual Communications Awards Dinner honors Michael Schultz, Melvin Van Peebles, Vanessa Williams and others at a March 11 engagement in Washington, DC. The International Live Music Conference at Kensington London is "by invitation only", and seeks to bring together key figures involved in the presentation of live entertainment around the globe for meetings on March 11-13.
